The second game scheduled for Centurion today sees last year’s Indian Premier League finalists clash under lights in a battle of brain versus brawn. Chennai’s opener, Matthew Hayden has been in good touch devastating bowling attacks with ease, while the Royals Captain Shane Warne is a crafty cricketer and spinning legend – the fact that they are both ex-Australian cricket heroes adds intrigue to the encounter. Centurion has the tendency to be a low scoring ground so tactics will be the key. All IPL cricket match odds are available right now at Canbet.com – the world’s biggest cricket betting community.

Chennai Super Kings

IPL 2009 so far: Played – 5, Won – 1, Lost – 3, N/R – 1

Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings are surprisingly finding themselves in complete disorder, claiming only a solitary win from five matches. Their bowling has been a source of constant disappointment, letting them down in every fixture thus far. Subsequently, Dhoni has hinted that the Super Kings may play more spinners in this matchup. This means that left-arm spinner Shabad Jakati is likely to play his first Indian Premier League match alongside Muralitharan. A loss will effectively end their hopes of making the IPL Semi-finals.

Best Bet for Chennai Super Kings:

Matthew Hayden – 10/10
Suresh Raina – 9/10
MS Dhoni – 9/10
Muttiah Muralitharan – 8/10
Jacob Oram – 8/10

Rajasthan Royals

IPL 2009 so far: Played – 5, Won – 2, Lost – 2, N/R – 1

The Rajasthan Royals stunned the Delhi Daredevils in their previous fixture, adding valuable momentum to their campaign as last year’s IPL finalists lock horns in Durban. Statistics give Rajasthan the clear edge over the Super Kings – they defeated Chennai in all three of their encounters last year. Finally, things seem to be falling into place for Shane Warne’s defending champions and they appear to have found the right team balance.

Best Bet for Rajasthan Royals:

Yusuf Pathan – 10/10
Shane Warne – 9/10
Graeme Smith – 8/10
Ravindra Jadeja – 7/10
Drimiti Mascarenhas – 7/10

IPL 2009 Match Preview

Strength: International Players
A strong international presence includes the likes of inform batsmen Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, David Warner and Andrew DeVillers. The bowling ranks are bolstered by veteran Glenn McGrath and the most economical bowler in T20, Daniel Vettori.

Weakness: middle-order
The Delhi Daredevil’s middle-order failed to support good starts by their renowned openers last season. The likes of Rajat Bhatia, Manoj Tiwari, Mithun Manhas and Dinesh Karthik will need to provide the required support if they hope to advance to the later stages of the Indian Premier League.

Best Bet for Delhi Daredevils:

Virender Sehwag – 9/10
Gautam Gambhir – 9/10
Glenn McGrath – 9/10
Daniel Vettori – 9/10
AB DeVillers – 8/10

Kings XI Punjab

Strength: Yuvraj Singh, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene
This imposing trio holds the key to the Kings XI Punjab’s Indian Premier League chances. Yuvraj for one will be eager to reproduce his T20 World Cup form after failing to stamp his authority in IPL 2008.

Weakness: Bowlers
Kings XI Punjab’s frontline bowlers Brett Lee, Sreesanth and Jerome Taylor are set to skip IPL this year due to injury concerns. This leaves Irfan Pathan, VRV Singh and Yusuf Abdulla to do the bulk of the work.

Best Bet for Kings XI Punjab:

Kumar Sangakkara – 10/10
Yuvraj Singh – 8/10
Mahela Jayawardene – 7/10
Ravi Bopara – 6.5/10
Shaun Marsh – 5/10

IPL team preview:

Bangalore Royal Challengers

Strength: Five South Africans in their Squad, individual brilliance
A lot will depend on how Kevin Pietersen, Ryder and Uthappa play. Amongst the Indian Premier League franchises, the Bangalore Royal Challengers have the highest number of South Africans in their squad – a huge advantage given their familiarity with local conditions.

Weakness: Agility in the field, batting
Bangalore Royal Challengers doesn’t have enough back up for Kevin Pietersen, Taylor, Ryder and Uthappa. Taylor will miss out on the opening match due to a cap on the number of foreign players allowed in the playing eleven. The agility of players like Kumble, Dravid, Jaffer, Joshi and a few other local Indian players will be a big worry.

Best Bet for Bangalore Royal Challengers:

Jesse Ryder – 9/10
Kevin Pietersen – 8/10
Rahul Dravid – 8/10
Dale Steyn – 6/10
Mark Boucher – 6/10

Rajasthan Royals

Strength: Self-belief, team work
An inspiring captain and a fairytale story; the Rajasthan Royals believed in their own individual abilities and that of their teammates. They backed each other and every player chipped in with their contribution to claim top honours last year.

Weakness: Experience
Other than Shane Warne, Graeme Smith and Yusuf Pathan, the Rajasthan Royals lack experience in their squad. Can they repeat their 2008 magic? One has to wait and see.

Best Bet for Rajasthan Royals:

Graeme Smith – 9/10
Yusuf Pathan – 8/10
Tyron Henderson – 6.5/10
Shane Warne – 6/10
Swapnil Asnodkar – 5/10

Chennai Super Kings vs. Mumbai Indians

April 17, 2009 by Editor · Leave a Comment

The second edition of the world’s most exciting Twenty20 tournament, the Indian Premier League 2009 gets underway this Saturday. The Chennai Super Kings (1.70) vs. Mumbai Indians (2.15) kicks off the action in Cape Town. If you love cricket betting, Canbet.com offers Live ‘In-Play’ betting on every IPL match complimented by the world’s best cricket odds.

Here’s a preview of the macth:

Chennai Super Kings

Strengths: Batting and All-rounders
Matthew Hayden’s availability for the whole tournament should give a settled look at the top of the order with Parthiv Patel for company. With Raina, Dhoni, Badrinath, Flintoff and Albie Morkel to follow, the Super Kings can fire all the way down to the tail. Five of the seven above mentioned batsmen are big hitters with the exception of Parthiv and Badri. Flintoff’s and Morkel’s bowling will be an added advantage.

Weakness: Bowling
L Balaji is coming back from an injury and hasn’t played enough matches in the last two months to be at his deadly best. His likely opening partner Manpreet Gony, despite performing exceptionally well in IPL 2008, might find the going tough this time. Remember, Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuria are set to open the batting for the Mumbai Indians.

Best Bet for Chennai Super Kings:

Suresh Raina – 10/10
MS Dhoni – 10/10
Albie Morkal – 8/10
Andrew Flintoff – 6.5/10
Manpreet Gony – 5/10

Mumbai Indians

Strengths: Batting
The Mumbai Indians are another IPL team featuring a strong batting lineup. The most successful player in limited over cricket, Sachin Tendulkar and his opening partner Sanath Jayasuria will be as dangerous as the Sehwag-Gambhir combination if they get going. Duminy, Napier, Rahane and Nayar can also chip in with the bat.

Weakness: Bowling
With the exception of Zaheer Khan, the Mumbai Indian’s bowling attack lacks the experience to handle the pressure and might get hammered by the big hitters in Chennai Super Kings. Evem Zaheer has the tendency to drift to the expensive side in this format. A lot will depend on Harbajan’s bowling.

Best Bet for Mumbai Indians:

Sanath Jayasuria – 10/10
Harbajan Singh – 8.5/10
Sachin Tendulkar – 8/10
Zaheer Khan – 7/10
Abhishek Nayar – 6/10
